Can't add any widgets to home screen

Hello-
I am new to Android 4.4 (my old phone was 4.0), and I can't add any widgets to my home screen. When I go into the widget screen and drag a widget to "add to home screen," nothing happens. When I look at all my home screens, it's not there. I even made sure there was an empty home screen. I tried it with several widgets, and this happens with all of them. (My phone is a Kyocera Hydro.)

The phone came with some widgets on the home screen, like power settings and "eco" and they are still there. There used to be a clock/weather widget on my main home screen, but it went away (and I can't get it back).

Just wanted to let you all know that I figured out what I was doing wrong. I stopped by the Sprint store, and a nice young man showed me that you don't simply move the widget to "add to home screen" and let go, but you have to keep your finger on it and then position the widget on the home screen of your choice.
