can't change ringtone g5

[Android Central Question]

i have a moto g5 and out of the blue it just assigned a ringtone to my incoming calls. i had a custom one selected and when you go into settings it plays all the various ringtones but if you pick one it doesn't take. All calls are answered with a one note bong sound. My custom notification sound works on messages but not the phone. Any suggestions ?

Welcome to Android Central! Is your custom tone file saved to Internal Storage or the SD card? Make sure it's saved to the /Ringtones directory on Internal Storage.

Are you using a ringtones app to save the ringtones, or are you just downloading the files manually and placing them in the /Ringtones directory?

Theyre placed in the phone's internal storage and they wont change from a "ding" which i can't even find on the phone's storage

Welcome to Android Central! I assume you're not the OP of this thread, since it was posted about 3 months ago. Are you saying that you have custom ringtones saved to Internal Storage and you can't change your ringtone to one of them? Are the ringtones saved to the /Ringtones directory? When you go to the Settings>Sound menu and select the option to change your ringtone, do you see your custom tones in the list? Are you even able to change the ringtone to another preinstalled sound?
