Hi all

I've had a search and can't find anything that will help. I want to do 2 things:

1 - stop good search app/widget search history syncing with my other android devices

2 - delete the Google search app/widget history.

For (2) above I've tried deleting the Google search app data and cache. Deleted Google Web history from my Google account. Deleted all history from chrome.

I've gone into settings in the Google search app and gone into settings. There is NO "clear on-device history" option (it's not even there but greyed out).

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated - this is driving me up the wall!

Happens on both:

Nexus 7 (Android 4.3)
Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android 4.1.2)

Cheers!

Hi

Open Google Settings application and then go to Search. Do some changes and see if helps you or not

Hi

Thanks for the reply :)

Unfortunately I've tried every single setting in there with no success. That includes turning off Web search history and deleting all my search history (via the web).

It's really weird because I would of thought it would be a straightforward exercise given how important privacy is to people. It's syncing across both my Android devices almost immediately too. When I delete one individual history (by long pressing and hitting delete) it also disappears from my other android device.

Arrrrggghhhh!

Also, I have no idea what's in the history as it will only ever show 3 history searches at a time. ALSO the three if selects are seemingly at random (although the same on both devices) - it never shows the most recent searches.

So annoying.

settings/apps/all apps/ google search - clear data and clear cache.

See if that fixes you up. :)

Thanks for the reply :)

Unfortunately I've tried that (several times) but it didn't help :(

Hi!

Google serach automatically drops not only his own history, but the history of browsers you used. E.g., my google search history includes two parts: first (upper part) - on grey background, and second - on black.

The first part can be deleted by menus of google serach setting.
The second (lower part, on black background) is the history of my integrated Web browser (called "Browser", it has an icon of earth planet). To remove its history you should go in it and clear from its settings.

I guess, google search can also syncronise history with some other browsers.

Try clicking and holding on the link that comes up in the box. Sorry I am not more technical but it took me so long to find such a simple answer. If you click and hold it gives you the option to remove the suggestion from the history. Same for the widgets on the new tabs screen.

Hope this helps. My first posting ever on a site like this.

Galaxy note 2

1. Click on 3 lines at top left of browser
2. Click on SETTINGS
3. Click on ACCOUNTS & PRIVACY
4. Click on Google Acct History
5. Click on Web & App history
6. Click on MANAGE HISTORY at bottom.
7. Check off what u want deleted or click on OLDER for options to clear everything.
I had to mess around with it until I figured it out.

Those options are not there in ios8 on iphone5 this is ridiculous

I had this same issue and I hated it so much. I ended up finding how to pause the history for it so it would show up like this:
-visit https://history.google.com/history/
-pressing the three circle drop down and selecting settings.
-turn off 'Your searches and browsing activity' and accept to pause it.
- hopefully now it should have worked :D
Hope this helps :)

Open the Google widget, in the search bar click the Google G. If you aren't logged into Google do so now. Should take you to another Google search window that will allow you to open the menu. Click the approiate item and eventually it will bring you to activity manager then delete all activity. You may need to refresh the widget a few times or restart your phone for the history to disappear

Hi!

Go into apps on your phone and clear all your data on Chrome :). It just worked for me a moment ago :)

All these solutions saying pause or delete your search history.
The issue is, maybe we dont want to do that.
We only want to delete certain items.
Like we used to be able to until suddenly now.
Not everything.
Dont want to not keep search history.
Just want to remove certain items by long pressing on it and choosing delete.

We used to be able to long press on an item in the drop down search history on the google search bar widget on our cell phones and choose to delete it from the history and it would. My phone is an htc u11. Now it keeps saying "unable to remove from history."

[language redacted by Mod] this original thread was from 2013? So why does this keep happening

Alternative solution.
1. Settings
2. Apps
3. Google
4. Storage
5. Manage storage
6. Clear Google search data
7. Done.
