Welcome to Android Central! You're connecting via USB or via Aux audio input jack (from the phone's headphone jack)?

Hello ToYou ,

Had a similar question with another Sony owner a while ago.
When connecting via usb, the phone needs to be in MTP mode, not PTP.
(media transfer protocol / photo transfer protocol).
A usb icon comes up on the notification screen when you first plug in, saying connected as a MTP (usually) or PTP device. To switch between the two, I can pull down the shade on my Samsung and check a box there. On a Sony and Motorola you may find the selection under Storage settings. I hope that works.

Are you saying that the car stereo is giving you a "USB not supported" error? Or is that error showing up on the phone?

That's going to be hard for us to help with. Make sure your phone is fully up-to-date in Settings>About Phone>System Updates.
