Can't edit system

I'm running Tranquility ROM on my droid x. using several guides from different sites I cant mark system as read and write. Im trying to install a custom keyboard and it need a file put into system lib. I tried all the commands in ADB and a terminal emulator. IM trying to install a black multi touch keyboard

Use Root Explorer. Well worth the money.
