Can't get Note 4 to screen mirror using MHL connection

I have tried everything and cannot get my note 4 to screen mirror to TV. I can wirelessly screen mirror using my firestick.

I can plug my Samsung tablet in and it works perfectly but my phone has never worked.

I am not looking to download an app to make it work as I didn't have to download any app for my tablet to work.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about miracast. Please help. I can't imagine no one has figured out how to over come this problem.

yes! mhl connector works with the note 4 i got one on amazon like a year ago for 8 bucks i think (i ordered one that said it was compatible with the note 4 and it has to be plugged in for power (i dont know if there are mhl that dont require power) i have 2 note 4s and have had no problem)

What MHL adapter do you have.
Samsung for a while needed its own version of the MHL adapter as i was using 7pins not 4 or 5.
