Can't install any ROM (ie: liberty 1.5 or apex 1.4.1) to my rooted DX

Hi please help. I rooted my DX and followed the instructions for install ROM per below:

1.You must be rooted
2. You must have either ClockworkMod Recovery flashed.
1. Download the ROM: Droid X or Droid 2 and place it on the root of your SD card (meaning not in any folder)
DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE. Leave it in .zip format.
2. Reboot into recovery (To this power off your phone. Hold X+Power button on Droid 2, Volume Down+Power on Droid X at the same time while powered off) Or you can reboot from Bootstrapper.
3. Make a complete backup of your current ROM just in case something goes wrong or you decide to go back to your current ROM.
4. WIPE DATA AND CACHE. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH
5. In ClockWorkMod Recovery, choose install zip from SD card and find the zip file you downloaded.
6. Reboot into Android. You’re done!

But in bootstrap recovery I keep getting:
E:Can't open /sdcard/LibertyX-1.5.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.

I tried with apex 1.4.1 and even rubiX Focused but all gave same error. I'm in bootstrap recovery and able to reboot to my stock Droid X fine. But the whole point of me rooting is to install these ROMs I keep reading about, also the tethering and overclocking which is awesome and I'm able to do. I just can't install these ROMs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Did you download the zip files from a PC or from your phone? Did you leave the files zipped? Try from bootstrap, bootstrap recovery and then reboot into recovery. It likely won't work if you don't bootstrap recovery first.

I downloaded the zip files from my desktop pc. And yes I left the files zipped and bootstrap recovery, it said "success" Then bootstrap reboot into recovery. Then chose zip from sdcard...

and that's when I get the install error.

Do you have wifi available? If so, I would try downloading one of them directly to your DX. Something might be transferring over right from your PC. Prob won't work without wifi. That's how I usually download my roms. After you just need to move to SD Root with you file manager. The file sizes look right but I would try downloading again.

Also, I would double check that when your DX reboots, that bootstrap (or any app) is still being granted SU permission. You may have lost root for some reason. The easiest way to check is in terminal emulator.

Alright, I will double check, but I'm pretty sure it is because when I open bootstrap or the droid overclock, the superuser is giving permission.

I'm having a little trouble with the downloading straight from the phone. Sorry but I'm still working on it...

I just downloaded the Fabolous_ApeX_V1_4_1.zip straight from the phone and did the bootstrap and bootstrap recovery and tried to install the zip from sdcard but same error message:

E:Can't open /sdcard/Fabolous_ApeX_V1_4_1.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.

Any other ideas? I'm willing to try anything at this time, looking at the stock Droid X really isn't doing it for me. But it could be way worse of course... I could be with a brick phone.. thankfully I'm not.

Are you sure you picked the right zip and not the one you downloaded from your pc again? To make sure, I would first delete all the zip files you downloaded first, then try again. I always find my downloaded zip roms in the download file. Is this how you are doing it? : clockwork, install zip from sd, choose zip from sdcard, download then choose your zip. I hope this helps.

You are right, I think I did download the file (Fabolous_ApeX_V1_4_1.zip) from the same site. I did delete all the rom .zip files on my sdcard.
1. It downloads to my sdcard/downloads folder.
2. I moved it to the root sdcard.
3. bootstrap recovery=success
4. bootstrap reboot=green text menu
5. install zip from sdcard
Then I get:
E:Can't open /sdcard/LibertyX-1.5.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.

I'll download the file from another site and try again. I downloaded the apex .zip file from mediafire.com site.

Yea, that's not it. Get the same error message. I tried different rom .zip files from different sites, it doesn't make sense I'm getting the same error message for 3 different rom .zip files: liberty, apex, and rubiX. Its gotta be something by me or my phone.

I'm gonna try this set of instructions I found browsing the threads:

Users coming from 1.3.1 may be safe to keep data and cache. If there are problems, then factory reset. -Uninstall updates to Market, Gmail, ADW Launcher, & Search if they're there under Settings->Applications->Manage Applications first. -Place file on your sdcard. Bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery -Select Factory Reset (delete data/cache) -Return to previous menu and install .zip from sd card -Choose ApeX and install!

I'll post up how this goes after I try this. Thanks.

Yup, same error message. Can't install the ROM. Any help would be appreciated!

This is the error message I am getting while trying to install from .zip from sdcard:

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.6

-- Installing: SDCARD:rubiXFocused2.0.1.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/rubiXFocused2.0.1.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.

Alright, I thought about this and I wanted to cover all the bases so I put a blank sdcard in there. Since the error message said something about E:Can't open /sdcard... I put a blank sdcard in the phone with apex .zip in the root directory and that did the trick. My DX just booted to ApeX 1.4.1.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Calicene.
