Ok I have been trying to figure this one out for a few days. I installed Nova launcher and for some reason I cant seem to find the stock messaging app in Nova. It's there in the stock launcher but nowhere to be found in Nova. Any help is greatly appreciated. And please don't just offer up alternative messaging apps. I want to use stock.

Someone else mentioned having the same issue. I think it's a Nova issue. No fix yet.

Same issue here. I actually ended copying over my Nova settings from my G3 using LG Backup and it can't open the messaging app. Stuck on on stock until Nova fixes the issue.

Have you looked in the app drawer? If it's there, have you dragged it to the desktop?

I'm in the same boat - there's a messaging app icon, but tapping it gives me an "App isn't installed" error. Nor can I seem to use the stock music player widget - it doesn't show up at all in the Nova list of widgets. Only the "Music (playlist)" widget.

Yep, tried that, to no avail...

Digging this thread up to say that the stock messaging app CAN be accessed while running Nova... kinda sorta... it's accessible in the Dual Window feature.

So, it's a "Yes, but..." situation, LOL.

Hmmm... now that I have the phone, and I'm using Nova, there was no problem adding an icon for the built-in messaging app to a Nova screen. I'm not sure why the OP and others have had problems with this. Perhaps it's a carrier thing, i.e. they're actually using a carrier messaging app and not the built-in LG app? I don't know; I had expected to have the same problem, but it just wasn't an issue on my phone. Curious.

I just use the hangouts app. I like it and will stick with until a better alternative comes up

Same issue on my Verizon unit. Can't use the default app when using Nova. For me, not a huge deal as I prefer Google's Messenger to it anyways.

Textra is the way to go, awesome application and worth it

Nova pushed out 4.0.2beta1 the other day. Among its updates is fixing the inability to open the Messaging app on the G4.

(I'm a big Textra fan and have been using EvolveSMS for a chnge the past couple of weeks)

Having the same issue. I have the icon for the messaging app, but it says "app not installed"

Nova just released an update on the Play store and it seems that they included a fix for that problem.

Same issue but with Apex Launcher on a Sprint G4. The Messaging app icon is in the App Drawer, but when I touch it, it just says app isn't installed. So it's not a Nova thing, it's a G4 thing. Apparently Nova worked around it somehow. I've reported the issue to the Apex support email but haven't heard back yet. If Nova could fix it, hopefully so can Apex.
