Can't open the Camera from the Lock Screen

Is anyone else having issues opening the camera from the lock screen? If I drag the camera into the ring it briefly flashes up for a moment and then I end up back at my main home screen. Sometimes it happens so fast I can't even see the camera app open. From the home screen if I select the camera icon from the dock it opens just fine. I've tried a full power-down of the phone (simulated battery pull) and nothing has fixed it. It does occasionally work sometimes.

All the other items in my dock open just fine from the lock screen (search, messaging, and a folder I have for check-in apps); it's only the camera that crashes if opened from the lock screen (and the one I'd use the most, natch!).

Just checked and I don't have that issue but it does raise another question...why can't the hardware camera button wake up the device or at least open the lock screen? Please tell me this is possible.

It's possible because the HTC Amaze does that :)

It could be added with a software update - my guess is since the EVO is using the same software as the One X & S, which don't have camera buttons, all HTC had time to code in was actually using the button as a shutter.

I worked for me when I did not have pin/face unlock on. Since I pit the face unlock on it does not open the camera from lock screen and I have to press phone icon again. Hope thi helps.

I'm using the face unlock and I can open the camera from the lock screen. As soon as I exit the camera it goes to the face unlock.

As for the hardware button opening the camera from lock, I'm on the fence with that. The camera might come on in your pocket but I guess I don't have a problem with the power button doing that and it's easier to press. If they do it, they should make it configurable so you can choose.

I've had that issue with the standard camera app at times. Not just from the lock screen.

What settings for the camera have you selected? Seems like if I uncheck cropping the photo and losing resolution (widescreen) and smile detection, it gets wacky.

NO!!! We already have a button to unlock the screen. It's just around the corner from the camera button and us called the power button.

If they do make it possible they had better provide an option to turn it off.

Well, I finally gave in and did a factory reset on the phone - was having too many weird issues with Facebook uploads, the camera crashing when loading or trying to open from the lock screen, etc. So far it seems to have resolved the problem. Now just putting everything back where I had it ... :)
