Can't open xlsm files?

Trying to use the N5 for work email. Have setup my work email (exchange) on the nexus, and for some reason I can't use an app to open tiff files even though it works fine if I send to my Gmail account. Meaning if I get a tiff file in my Gmail act and click to open, a popular Xmas up asking if I want to use the fastimage viewer to view the file. But if the file is in an email account that isn't my Gmail act it just won't open the file.

Now I can't open xls files either on the device. I get a "no app can open this attachment for viewing" message.

There MUST be a way to open these files without having to first save them to a directory and then exit the email app to go into an appropriate document app? I. E., the amps seem to be recognized by the stock Gmail app, but not the non-mail email app??

What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing?

To open an xls file, you need to download an office suite app such as Polaris, Kingsoft, Quickoffice, or Documents to go if you don't already have such an app installed.

When you open the attachment after downloading one of these, it should open automatically from your stock email app after it downloads.

I have Kingsoft and Quickoffice installed and the email app doesn't recognize them. Only the Gmail app does.

Many are reporting attachment issues with the stock email app. You may wish to install a 3rd party email app such as K9.

Download the file, then open office suite and look in the download file and look for the xlsm file in question. Thats the only way to do it.

That's not acceptable for a smart phone in my opinion. Ridiculous actually, given all other OS seem to manage files like tiff and xlsm just fine within the email app.

No, the only correct way to currently do it is to install an email program that works. The stock app sucks. Clearly if they can get the gmail app to work they can get the generic app to work too.

This is the way I have done it since I made the jump to Android. I don't know why this hasn't been fixed yet but It's the best work around I have been able to find. IOS doesn't have these issues.
