I don't know where you are seeing htc software update, but go to Settings>About>Software Update

perhaps it's different on different carriers...I'm on sprint....would fact that I'm rooted have to do with it...no rom, just stock rooted and unlocked

Well, seeing as it was an ATT hotspot issue as far as I know there probably isn't an update for you. Is the Media Link not working on Sprint either?

Go under about and to software. It won't be under the ATT software update.

I installed the update (I'm on AT&T), and it connects now-yay! I'm having some sound issues, though. Anyone else experiencing low volume and crackling? It's also wonder why you can't get to your home screen while connected. But hey, at least that error message is gone!

I am on AT&T and it was under "About >> Software updates" NOT the "AT&T software update" option. This was an update direct from HTC I guess.

Alright, opened the box and haven't hooked it up yet. First thing I noticed is it comes with a six foot long charging cable that seems to be compatible with the phone! Awesome

I just tried that, too, but it says to contact AT&T about enabling a mobile hotspot. Why is this necessary? Is there away around it?
I don't get to the part about entering a pin...

There is a a HTC software update available for the Media Link, just go into settings and hit about. Enjoy
