Cant Pull Trigger on Nexus - Convince Me!

Nothing better was shown at ces. Competative phones wont be out for vzw for months. Think late march or after.

I love it when people ask for advice on one phone and someone chimes in basically to say wait 9 months...there's an awesome phone coming out then. Yeah, and the people that got the GN at launch are now halfway through their contract to their next upgrade.
There's always a better phone coming out. If you need a phone, get a phone. If you have the luxury of waiting for something better, do that. My DROID was on its last legs. This phone couldn't have come out at a better time for me.

My storm 1 literally shut down for good the night I was in the Verizon store getting the GN on launch. No one could believe it! NOT JOKING>>>

I have a Fascinate, I've got it humming along like never before with a great ROM and a slick custom theme. The GN doesn't excite me. 4G, ICS and bigger screen would be nice, I guess, but certainly are not necessities. But like others have said, it's completely subjective, so after doing your research/homework/hands-on time, just make a choice that makes you happy. If not, return it in 14 days and go with something else. ;)

I came from a fascinate that was running pretty darn well once GB was installed on it. I couldn't be happier with the switch to the nexus though. I don't get 4g in my town but I've never dropped a call or lost reception. Even in campus buildings my 3g is awesome and faster than what I'm used to. My battery usually goes about 24-28 hours on a charge which is perfect for me! I'd say go with the nexus, you won't be disappointed

Based on everything in your post.....I say get the Nexus.

I agree with those that say try it out for a test run first tho. Just keep track of when you can return it.

Thanks for the responses. I've pretty much decided to wait on the 4.03 update so I know exactly what I am getting myself in for.

My 'guess' is that the software will not be able to change reception by a large amount, sort of like how the software GPS fix didnt really make my Fascinate GPS work perfectly.

By waiting I will be able to make the decision without having to wonder about that factor.

There was nothing shown at CES that would cause me to want to wait, other than the new TF701 tablet over the TF201 I was considering purchasing.

I have tried both the Rezound and the Razr and ended up with the Nexus for one main reason - the fact that it is a Nexus and might be the last one that Verizon will ever get (who knows). I honestly wish the Nexus was made by Motorola with the build quality of the Razr and a removable battery. But that's not a choice for now.

I got the nexus because of the dev support and the updates from Google. I know that when a new os comes out, we will be first in line, like the nexus s was. I'm coming from the rezound, which I liked better for reception, camera and screen, but I wasn't about to let htc be in control of my phone and update schedule for the next 2 years. I'll only buy nexus phones now.

Just out of curiosity and not to be controversial may I ask how you know that the Galaxy Nexus will be the first to get new versions of the OS? Is it because this has happened in the past to Nexus devices and you're extrapolating this to be the same as previous Nexus versions? Or has there been some official statement by Google to that effect?

Is this the first Nexus device by Verizon? If not, what is their past history on updates? If so, then we don't know their history so it may not be clear what will happen.

Verizon is the 800 pound gorilla with regard to carriers. They hold out until things are in their favor. We saw that with the iPhone and how long it took Apple to get Verizon to carry the device and we also saw it with this phone and when it was released.

My gut feel is that Google is not in total control with the Galaxy Nexus as they were with prior Nexus devices. Time will tell, though.

Are you kidding? This is the best device out there, and because of it being a Nexus, will always be ahead of all other devices in terms of software, until the next Nexus is released. I have no bugs, no signal issues, no problems at all. This thing runs flawlessly! Having said that, if you need to be "convinced" to buy anything (phone, car, toilet paper) then you shouldn't get it. If you've looked at other phones as well and still can't decide, then I'd suspect that your searching for perfection. You'll never find it and likely be dissatisfied with anything you buy. All these devices are one bad app away from developing a problem. Unfortunately, people can't associate the problem with an app, so they say the phone sucks.

Thanks for the reply, but this attempt at psychology is rather juvenile. I enjoy doing homework before making a purchase, and I have been pretty happy with most of the results. For instance my Samsung Fascinate, is not perfect, but has served me well for going on 16 months and I still show it off with pride.

I have no idea where you get all this 'searching for perfection' nonsense, but its off base.

So pick which ever one you like the best. They're all great devices.

It's the nature of nexus devices. The device is in the hands of the devs and they will make sure we get stable updates to new os'. Like nexus devices before this, the carrier has little to do with it. Granted verizon has a minor hand in release schedules, we have been on 4.0.3 for weeks without the official release of it. It sounds like you aren't familiar with nexus devices and the community.

No matter what the devs think and Google thinks, Verizon will always be the gatekeeper for devices on their network. Maybe you missed the delay of the release of the GN in November/December. It had Verizon's fingerprints all over it.

I'm just wondering what evidence the devs have that say it will be different with Verizon. As you point out 4.0.3 is readily available. Except those that don't/can't root their device. Verizon holds that timetable. It will NOT be released until Verizon says it will be released. Period. End of story. If you have evidence to prove the opposite I'd like to see it. But I don't think there is such evidence.

Until Google kicks the "Bill Gates ghost" possessed president out of Motorola Mobility, all we ate ever going to see is locked boot loaders motor blur and non removable batteries.

Google needs to rush in like the wind and clean house!
