Can't Restore 'Samsung Notes' From Note 7 Smart Switch Backup

I've encountered an issue using Smart Switch. When I went to load the backup that I took for the Note 7 into the S7 Edge, I was unable to select 'Samsung Notes'. It was greyed out.

How can I load 'Samsung Notes' from the Note 7 backup ?

Samsung notes was exclusive to the Note 7. Samsung has yet to make it compatible for any other phones. S Note is what's available for the S7 line.

I was on the phone with Samsung Technical Support (800-726-7864) for Smart Switch. They told me the same thing - Note phones and Galaxy phones have different 'Notes' and are not compatible. All of my 'Notes' are really memos from my iPhone. Samsung is working on creating software to be able to extract the 'Notes' from the Note 7 to S7 or S7 Edge devices. Samsung will contact me when the software is ready.

I hope they come up with a solution soon... I have so many Samsung Notes that I need NOW! What a mess... Just when I thought the whole Note 7 thing was behind me. Sigh.

Try setting up a free Evernote account on the Note 7. It should backup your Samsung Notes to Evernote and then you can install Evernote on your new phone to access the notes

I specially registered for a account here to post a fix I found! It's really simple, just go to the Samsung Store and search for "Samsung Notes" AND NOT "S Note". Once you have installed "Samsung Notes" (The icon should be the same as the Note 7's icon) then plug your cable back to your desktop/laptop and you should see the box being enabled instead of grayed out.

triple thumbs up. Samsung Notes downloaded all my Note 7 (and note edge, note2) notes to my 'temp' S7 Edge.
BTW cant wait for the Note 8. Note 7 was the best darn'ed smart phone I've had :-(

WOW you are a life safer. I was baffled as to why notes were grayed out and couldn't find an answer anywhere. You saved the day for me, and likely for a lot of other people. Thanks!
