cant root! E:Signature verification failed

Super one click, z4root and gingerbreak does not work on gingerbread 2.3.4 and that it what my lg optimus 2x is running.. I found a new way to root (or attempt to) by downloading upd_zip.1, moving it to root of sd card, powering off then back up in recovery mode, apply update from sd card then select zip file to Install... I followed the above steps but when I went to install I received this error message: E:signature verification failed... Can someone please instruct me in how to root this device or maybe tell me where I am going wrong in installing the zip? I would really appreciate any tips or suggestions, thanks!
