Can't send messages to certain contacts

[Android Central Question]

I am on Samsung S9+ with Tmobile using the Messages app by Android (not Samsungs). On certain contacts in the the details section of the chat with that person I have the option of "only send SMS and MMS messages" It is toggled off. I only see that on 3 of my contacts the rest from the ones i have checked they don't have that option to toggle on or off. Coincidently those are the 3 contacts that messages don't go thru or go thru after a few days. Why is that?

Welcome to Android Central! It might be because those contacts also have RCS chat turned on (and you presumably have it on as well).
