Can't text with my Grandkids

[AC Question]

My Grandkids have an ipod. My Wife has an iphone and can send and receive texts with them. I have a Galaxy S3 and I cannot. Do I have to give up my S3 in order to text with them? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

They are probably running an app that is called iMessage. I am not sure if you would be able to message them since they aren't using actual phones.

They have an iPod. It doesn't have SMS (Texting) capabilities like a phone does. Since your wife has an iPhone, and Apple has a service called iMessage, they can text each other. She can text anyone with a Macbook or iPad as well.

You could use an app that doesn't rely on SMS to text them. Like Kik or Hangouts, but your grandchildren would need to download said apps as well.

No need to give up your s3 for that tell them to get whatsapp or skype witch you can get on wp or ios or android.
