Can't unlock S6 due to crashing keyboard

I installed the latest update from Samsung and some minutes later, while trying to send a message to a friend the keyboard crashed and refused to come back on.

I ignorantly turned off the phone thinking that would correct it but sadly, now I can't even unlock the phone as the keyboard still keeps crashing.

I've seen similar threads here, but non as recent as this year. Wondering if some progress has been made towards resolving this issue.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? Is it stock keyboard or 3rd party?

The one way out of this mess that I have seen in various similar threads is to get our hands on a USB keyboard (you might even be able to walk into a phone store or Best Buy or similar and borrow one), plug it in long enough to get your phone booted up and then download and install a new keyboard app.

Try safe mode as described above....but along with that, enter recovery and Clear the Cache Partition. Hope this helps.
