Did PB31IMG file it worked fine, put in the directory UPDATE.ZIP and turned off phone, did POWER + Vol Down, said Recovery and it goes to a screen RED TRIANGLE and !....nothing happens, please help

after you ran the PB31IMG file did you let the phone to the actual OTA update before trying to flash the new update?

When you get the red triangle hold the power button and volume up at the same time.

I had the same problem and used to get that screen but now I have no idea what is going on. I pulled the battery when i got that image and checked if the radio version changed. It didn't. So I rerun the pb31 thing and i think it fails when it updates the radio because the screen goes black halfway through.
I dont know what to do.

The "pb31" thingy is the original, unrooted stock ROM. Once you're done that, you need to remove the "pb31mg" file from your SD card.

You've got to install the camera/radio update next. Copy the "dinc_ota" file to your SD card, then rename that file "update." Boot into recovery, and run the option that says something like "run update.zip."

When that's done, let the phone reboot. Check to see if your software updated, then load the Froyo ROM.

Note: to get to recovery, with the phone off, hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time. When the hboot does it's thing, use the volume button to move to recovery, then hit the power button. When the triangle screen comes up, hit volume up and power at the same time to actually enter recovery.

Note 2: If you want to root the Froyo, run unrEVOked before you load the Froyo ROM.

Thank you. Right now i just wiped again, rooted, am running nandroid backup and will run Titanium and start over from the beginning when I have more time haha.

The "update.zip" just was erroring out even when i get the phone and triangle screen and try to load it from there. I am just gonna start over again and at least I have a better understanding the next time around!

Try renaming the file simply "update." Windows supplies the ".zip" extension.

yeah i messed up multiple times naming it update.zip, it just needs to be named update and like the guy above me said, windows automatically ends it with .zip for you.

You can also check the file name using astro from the market and go into renaming it to see the file name.

To correct that, it should be simply 'update' without the quotes. No extra '.' at the end. Sorry to seem nitpicking, but it does make a difference in the end.

Just a heads up! :D

Yeah...ask me how I know...

The period was for the end of the sentence...but you're right. There would be people trying to put that period in there and wondering why it doesn't work.

Can you load Froyo without envoked? The instructions I saw made it sound like you had to run envoked before loading the froyo update.
Thanks

You need root access to enjoy froyo before the official update. Unrevoked is the easiest way to root...so yes, if you are not rooted you need to run unrevoked prior to loading the Froyo ROM.

well to correct all of you you do not need to name it to update. Since you need clockwork which is the recovery you get once rooted. So, I don't know why people are relaying false info. You can rename it to whatever you want and it will work. Just figured I would clear that up for the noobs since no one else did.

Yes but according to the instructions posted everywhere, it will only work if it is renamed "update". Granted you can run any zip file with ClockWorkMod, but that is not how the instructions explain it.

Not to mention that if you follow the directions verbatim, you don't have a rooted phone with CM recovery on it at this stage...

I just remembered that and came back in here to post that very thing. You do in fact HAVE to rename it.
