Hello I impatient to upgrade my Galaxy S2 to ICS4 or at least to Gingerbread 2.6. I buy this phone unlocked and I have Gingerbread 2.4?
I listen in several post that the only way is Rooting the device, but In afraid to do that because I see that a lot of people have issues in any function of the phone.
Other trouble that I have is that I can't use the Readers Hubs to read books and magazines because when I try the app send me directly to the Samsung Apps and appear a message that I need to upgrade the Samsung Apps, but when I accept the app close and doesn't happen.

Please help me. I assume that I need to upgrade via Root but this method is safe ?

Thank

i bought s2 couple of days ago and it shipped with android 2.3.6. what i did was, run kies in desktop, upgrade kies, then connect my phone, and as soon as the phone is recognized i got a message that a new firmware is available for my set. so i clicked upgrade firmware, first it download some files for kies, then windows 7 asked me to grant access to run that kies file, once it was run, a smaller window opened and it download the ICS for S2 and flashed it with 4.0.3 version.

Thanks for your reply. You have a goo luck, because my Galaxy S2 comes with 2.3.4 and doesnt admit upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 o Gingerbread 2.3.6. May I think if I can have the 2.3.6 Version for Gingerbread, the firmware update automatically to ICS 4.0.3 like your phone, but I have 2.3.4 and cant find the way to upgrade. Thanks

You can always get the firmware from sammobile or XDA and flash the latest using ODIN. You are better off not using KIES. I never touch it since day 1

ok great but my problem is that kies is not recognizing my phone...a message says "current firmware software is not supported o update by kies" this is very frustrating not sure what to do....

It's possible your phone was rooted or that the firmware was installed by a third party (to make it unlocked) and the firmware doesn't match the country code.

You're best option would be to get the latest firmware from sammobile and use ODIN to flash it to your phone as desean mentioned. I had flashed the latest jellybean from the netherlands to my phone and kies now recognises it now problem and even gave me a small update.

It just sounds like the company/person that sold your phone played with the firmware somehow which now makes kies reject it.
