Can't use usb stick with tablet.....are they not compatible? ?

I'm trying to transfer something from my usb stick to my tablet but nothing happens when it's inserted, does this mean usb sticks are not compatible with my tablet??

The device needs to be OTG compatible. (On the Go). Many, like the cheaper Samsung tablets, or 7 inch versions, are not.
If you Google the spec sheet it should say OTG under Connections or somewhere.
