Can't view .avi videos from external SD card

Hi all

I am currently using a nexus 5.

I have recently bought myself a mini quadcopter which can take photos and record videos to a micro SD card.

When I view the files on a windows laptop, there is no problem. However, when I use an otg card reader with my nexus 5, I cannot play the video files. There are no problems viewing photographs.

I have also tried using a file manager to copy the avi video files onto the nexus' internal storage. I copy them to a folder I created within the pictures folder. Again, there are no problems copying photos, but the videos will not paste into the folder.

I have installed VLC to play the avi files, but it does not work.

However, using the android file explorer that appears when I plug in the reader, I can upload the videos to my Google drive, and play them from there without any problems.
If I download the files from Google drive to my phone, then I can play them.

This leads me to think that there is an issue somewhere with reading the files from the card; maybe the nexus simply struggles with larger video files?

I would like to be able to record footage on the quadcopter, then plug the micro SD card into my otg reader and view the footage straight away, without using Google drive if possible.

Any help or advice would be great, thanks.

Try using mx player

I'll give that a go. But it still doesn't resolve the problem on not being able to move the files directly from the card to the phone.
