Can't wait to see what the sales numbers are on this phone

I wasn't referring to them beating Samsung. That's not even possible. I'm just saying I don't think the sales are gonna be that great unless they ramp up advertising. I don't think just simply making a better phone and having the tech people buzz about it is gonna help. They need to launch an advertising campaign like Google did with the Pixel.
We shall see

I think they will do pretty well but I think the Note 8 is going to take off like crazy depending on what it has to offer and its total specs

The S8 sales will most likely trump the Note 8 sales.

As the original poster my curiosity about sales figures had nothing to do with the valid points that you make. I'd like to see LG do well because they need it after the less than spectacular results they have had recently, especially the G5. We need the companies that are less successful to do well because competition is good for the average consumer.
To your points, I'm not one to follow the crowd so I buy what I like. That's why I bought a V20.

I get what you're saying and I agree. If they don't do well they may not continue in this market and that narrows the market and our consumer choices. That is a good point. I was not looking at it that way at first. In that respect, I do hope they do well in sales.

G6 and Note 8 do not have the same target markets. Sure there are those that cross over back and forth, but the Note goes against the LG V series while the S8 goes up against the G6

The success of this phone in LG's eyes will depend on how many they forecasted to sell. That's the only number they are concerned about. Anything over that projection would be considered a success.

I hope it's better than the G5, but they lost a lot of traction with that device.

I'm pretty sure it will be.

The G5 was a non-starter for a lot of people because its modular approach was gimmicky at best and resulted in a number of build issues along with a mini-scandal in relation to how LG advertised the phone as a metal device (which it technically is) but covered it up with plastic-based primer.

The G6 is a breath of fresh air as LG focused a lot on the basics and made a pretty darn good device as a result. The only flaw I can give it right now is its regional difference.

Feels like you're talking about reviewer reception rather than consumer perception. Reviewers generally hated it, and with good reason. Consumers never heard of it.

Yeah, reviews weren't hot.

Although some G5 issues got kinda viral, so while it may have gotten some mainstream appeal, I think the G5 didn't get a decent amount of marketing treatment.

That's good and everything, but I watch a lot of TV and have yet to see one. I saw like 3 Samsung commercials in the span of an hour while watching a TV show. That's marketing.
I've seen zero for both of them.. so yep :x.

No one. I'm just saying, LG needs to market this phone. They need to at least be close in marketing. They've got a good phone this year. People just need to know about it.
I don't disagree that it needs to be marketed but the controlling powers at LG aren't going to throw tens or hundreds of millions of dollars at advertising when the mobile branch is losing money.

Ive seen 1 commercial for LG and 1 commercial for S8 multiple times. The LG one got 3 spots during The Walking Dead Sunday. I think the Samsung got 2. Ive seen The LG on some Discovery Channel Shows but the S8 on network stations.
