Capacitive buttons not lighting up?

I only just noticed this the other day, but the four capacitive buttons won't light up at all when I press one. The placement if then is second nature for me because I've had this phone so long, but it's irritating when it's dark out fumbling around for the buttons, and poor vision doesn't make it better.

Any help is appreciated.

The button's light should be under control of the display options and the light sensor upon waking the unit.

Any chance you are rooted running CM7 and have been editing the 'display options'? There are settings there that can control whether or not your lights come on or not based on your light sensor.

If you're not running CM, is your display brightness set to 'automatic'? Double check, some apps can change this (IIRC). Not sure if the stock rom automatic setting alters the hard buttons, but try it and see. You could also possibly have a faulty light sensor, but I'm not thinking that's a high failure item.

Not rooted, running the latest update that removed Carrier IQ from this. Brightness is at 100

Mine died a while ago, It's almost time to look for a new phone/carrier anyways. I love my EVO and refuse to buy an LTE phone on sprint for now, so I'm looking.
