Car Dock with Car Panel

Has anyone experimented with magnets to make the Car Panel app launch automatically when inserted in the dock? With magnets or otherwise?

I'm hoping I can either make or buy a solution for both my desk and my car dock that is something similar to the video below. I know the Car Panel app doesn't work in landscape mode but I'm ok with that as long as the app launches automatically.

No magnetometer in the incredible................

There is a magnetometer in the Incredible. Download something like Sensor Test from the Market and check it out. I just used it to detect a spoon. This may be the killer app the Android platform has been waiting for!

It doesn't. I got the car dock today. Works really well, but no auto-navigation launch.

Where did you get the car dock from, and how much was it?

I just ran the Sensor Test app and it detected a screwdriver.

So this means that if it does have a magnet, can't we write an app that runs in the background and once it detects the magnetic source, it just launches the Car Panel app.

I have a regular car mount from wal-mart that works great. I've had it for 2 years now. If I can just make something to hold a magnet, and secure it in the car mount, it would essentially work, right?

I may see if I can write the app, but I'm new to the whole application writing world so if someone else could do it, I'd love to see it work.
