Car mount compatibility?

I will be taking a long road trip in two weeks and was thinking of buying a new Nexus 7 to use for Google maps nav. I found a company that makes some nice car mounts for phones and tablets (Proclip) but their webpage says they only make a mount for the 2012 (Asus) Nexus 7 and isn't compatible with the 2013 version. Since they are relatively the same size, I was wondering why a 2013 model couldn't fit. Did they move the power connection location? I emailed the company, but I wanted to ask here as well. I want to have a solution in place to test out before I leave. Thanks for any help!

Email from the manufacturer: "Our older holder for the previous Nexus 7 does not work with the newer version because of the different dimensions between the two."

I assume you either will be buying the LTE version or will be tethering?

Yes - tethering with my Galaxy Nexus.

Why would that even be a factor...unless you need constant updated traffic information. Apps like navigon store the maps on the device offline, so no data connection is required, just a good GPS fix. Been using various devices over the years mounted on the dash using this method. Tethering or using the LTE version is useful, but not required.

But maybe he want's to find a local (*ahem*) club while driving through a certain area.

I just got turned on to Akron mounts, which seem to be cheap and effective. Found them on Amazon.
