Car/Wall chargers that charge at 1 Amp and *are* recognized as AC?

I know there are lots of threads about chargers already. But I am really having trouble finding chargers that are not only rated at 1A but also have the proper pins shorted for it to actually recognize it as a high current charger and display it as "AC" mode. It seems like many chargers that are advertised as 1A do NOT have these shorted, and my understanding is that unless the Evo detects it as being an "AC" charger (even for a car charger), it isn't going to charge it above 500 mA, no matter what the charger is capable of. A lot of threads have people saying a charger "works", but very few that specify whether it's really showing the proper mode to get fast charging.

My main interest is in a compact dual USB car charger. A dual USB travel charger would be nice too. The Griffin PowerJolt Micro Duo fits the bill on paper for the car charger, but is not recognized as an AC charger.

I have heard the following work, but they're not exactly what I want:

• Palm OEM car charger. I can't tell how big it is -- looks fairly small, but I'm using it with a port in my center armrest that doesn't have a lot of clearance. Doesn't have dual ports. Lots of people say it "works", and I've seen one or two posts confirming that it is indeed seen as AC. Can anyone else confirm?
• Motorola OEM car charger. I don't like coiled cables, and I'd prefer to be able to swap in a micro-usb cable when needed for my bluetooth speakerphone. But here too, I've heard it is recognized properly.

Here are ones I believe do not work:

• I know first hand the Griffin PowerBlock Micro, a home/travel charger rated for 1A, is not recognized properly.
• As mentioned above, the Griffin PowerJolt Micro Duo is not seen properly.
• I've also tried a version of the Griffin PowerJolt Duo (larger version) that WalMart had which claims it is 1A per port, but it is also not seen properly.
• I've heard the Belkin bullet car charger (single) has the same issue.

Can anyone else add their experiences with various chargers? Any rated at 1A and properly detected as AC? If you have one rated at 1A that is not recognized as AC, please post that too for purposes of elimination.

Did you ever find a dual charger to your liking? I was just looking at the Powerjolt as I want a low profile plug but I see it does not get recognized as a AC charger. I am looking for one for my Fascinate but I assume the issue is the same.

No, I didn't. I bought a palm car charger, and it does charge at 1 amp. But it has a cord that's pretty short, and you can't really use a longer one easily. It's designed to wrap around the connector, but it only accepts a really narrow plug. So I only half recommend it.

I do still want to find a dual charger that meets my needs, but it hasn't been a priority lately.

Motorola's OEM rapid charger is what I use, for both my Pre and now for my Evo. Doesn't meet all your specs but I like it better than Palm's charger and it's strong with a good amount of cord.

I've had this particular car charger since about August of last year and it's been great. Plugs in, charges about as fast as the wall charger and is fully articulated to display the phone however you need in your car.

Evo 1A charging- microUSB cable wire gauge matters

I just discovered there's more magic to the 1 Amp charging on the HTC Evo than just the charger! You must have a proper microUSB charging cable!! The cheapo ebay ones that use the same gauge wire for data & power (28 awg probably) are detected and the evo stops charging, even though it says "AC CHARGING", it isn't.

I suspect when at high current the voltage dips on the small copper wires too much and the evo stops charging. It doesn't really report that anything is wrong. But if you run "battery monitor widget" you can see the power draw is still in red (it is negative) even though it says it is charging.

So my advice is to use the original cable or buy high quality microUSB cables as it definitely can cause problems!
