Careful when you trade in a phone with Gazelle to upgrade to the Note 20

Before sending a trade in , take picks of the phone or tablet. Video of the unit booting up and video of you packing it to ship out. I have been lucky so far but I have heard the stories so this is what I do now.
That's what I do. All 6 sides, a video of it booting. Photos of the packing, boxing and sealing.

I had a Note 10+. Perfect condition. Was in a good case from minute 1. Gazelle quoted me $365. Fine. I package it up really well, and in fact kept the case on the phone.

I get an email back that my phone has "multiple scratches, and is missing buttons", and that they'll only give me $85. BS. I call their support, and they tell me sometimes the rep mistakenly applies the value to another customer's phone, and that they'll inspect it again.

They get back to me, and now they say it isn't scratched or missing buttons, but the stylus is missing, and the offer is still decreased to $85. I told them if the stylus was missing, it is because the person doing the inspection lost it or it came out in the box in shipping and they didn't notice.

It took a lot of back and forth, but they finally relented and paid me the $365, but geez. What a hassle. Makes me think twice about using Gazelle again.
Mistake was using gazelle. Could have sold that phone in person for $450 instantly.

Everyone here knows that, but this is much more convenient if they just stick to what they say the first time. I've had a bad experience selling to individuals. Same reason some choose to trade in a car versus selling it straight out to someone. Convenience and safety.

Careful selling on Swappa, the only reason I stuck with ebay is for their seller protection. Swappa depends on PayPal protection only which allows people to request a refund for 180 days, heard some crazy stories of people trying to do a refund 5 months later because of some issue with the phone, PayPal always sides with the buyer.

We have the same issue in the UK with ebay. Buyers get protection but sellers don't anymore. People get the product and file a complaint with eBay and get their money straight back. Of you want your item back you have to pay for a courier to collect it at your expense and that is if the buyer even gives it back. People have lost a lot of money using ebay. EBay always sides with the buyer.

Interesting, I know they will side with the buyer alot, but as long as you ship the item to the address on the label and can show proof of delivery, they will always back the seller. If they complain that the item is not as described or any issue, they have to ship the item back before getting the money. I've been selling on ebay for years, had my first issue recently where the person said they never got it. Tracking shows it was delivered and signed for, ebay sided with me.

I always pay for insurance too, 1 time where the item was lossed by USPS, thankfully I had insurance and got my $700 back. In this case, since I couldn't show proof of delivery, ebay gave the money back to the buyer, which I totally understand in that scenario.

The same thing happens on eBay, anywhere PayPal is accepted really. I sold an item for a friend on eBay and they returned it 3 months later completely used and useless and PayPal gave them their money back. This is why I won't sell big ticket items on eBay anymore. The only real way to not get screwed is the Cash App or physical cash like Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp or Craigslist.

Also, I've learned to never Pre-order another phone from Best Buy. Talk about a debacle.

Ditto. The last phone I preordered from them was the Note 7. They messed up my Verizon account and it took me hours on the phone to straighten it out. Then they tried to charge me for a "geek squad installed screen protector" that they said I requested (I didn't) when all that was on the phone was the plastic protector from the factory.
