I know that I could root different carrier ROMs onto the Note 7 when I had it without anything special.

I had a US Cellular Note 7 and flashed AT&T Firmware on it, is it possible to do this with a S7 Edge as well???

Phone is SIM Unlocked

The US versions of the S7 Edge have a locked bootloader so flashing any ROM other then stock is not possible.

I was under the impression that the note 7 also had a locked bootloader...but I was able to install on that device

If you look on the XDA developers site, you will see that this is not possible at this time. I had my T-Mobile S7 Edge rooted but that is all that was and is currently possible.

I can actually confirm it works with Official Firmware.

My device was SM-935RZ

I flashed SM-935U

I flashed Official non-carrier rom on my device...

My S7 is a US CELLULAR model and I flashed the Universal firmware

In other words, if I wanted to flash AT&T or Verizon Firmware I'd be able to...as long as it is Officially released by the carriers

Ok so what's the point in that then? The idea of being able to flash a custom ROM was being able to block ads in apps, remove unwanted apps and make the phone do other things the stock ROM doesn't allow you to do.

Because I didn't want US Cellular carrier bloatware if I have AT&T as a service provider. Also flashing a different ROM allows me to use band 17 on AT&T.
