Carrier unlock available?

Is a carrier unlock available for the ATTSGII? I would like to use this phone when I travel to Mexico on the Telcel network.

If you root it, then yes. If you bought the phone at full price, call AT&T and ask for unlock code. Otherwise, you will have to wait at least 6 months before AT&T will give you the unlock code.

For unlocking, I guess you have to either wait, or pay full price and call AT&T as mentioned above.

I must have misunderstood. I thought that the phone could be unlocked if it was rooted. I do plan to get it with a carrier subsidy. Thanks.

You must be rooted to use some of the unlocks that are out there is the reason he said that.

There's a guide on xda forums specifically for this phone for unlocking/rooting. You need to root it first then download the unlock program from the Market.
