Case Advice

Just bought a Nexus 4 for my boyfriend. It is his first smartphone - he's been using old HP phones for years, like an iPaq kind of deal. So in other words he's really used to a stylus or even a qwerty keyboard. I know he's been thinking about making the leap from 2003; so I thought our anniversary would be a good excuse.

Anyway I want the transition to be smooth for him so I need some case recommendations - ones that can integrate a stylus. Would a leather folio flip style be good? I know he's had a leather style flip (vertical not horizontal) in the past. Are there any hard cases out there with like a side clip. I know lots of styluses come with head phone jack clips, but that always seemed annoying to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on that as well? I was leaning towards the Wacom Bamboo and that comes in several styles including a normal pen clip and the head phone jack.

Thanks in advance.

I posted this in the Nexus 4 forum as well, but I was also seeking some general thoughts on transitioning to a touch screen so more general advice is welcome as well since obviously not all cases are available for all phones.

You can always use a stylus with any touchscreen device--you just don't need to use one. I would say that for most Android devices that have capacitative touchscreens (which is to say, all Android devices that aren't cheapo knockoffs straight from China, which often have resistive touchscreens), a stylus is completely unnecessary, with the exception of the Galaxy Note series, which utilize a special kind of stylus called the S-Pen.

I don't think a stylus would be necessary with a device like the Nexus 4. If he really has to have one there are plenty online (including the Android Central Store) which can meet that demand. However, let him give the Nexus 4 a whirl for a few days (or weeks) and see how he does without a stylus.

A stylus can't be used... screen won't register contact from inanimate objects. The Nexus 4 uses a capacitive touch screen.

There are capacitative styli out there. Just search for them on Google or Amazon. So if you want to use a stylus, you'd need to buy one of these. But again, it isn't necessary.

I was leaning towards the Wacom Bamboo - but the storage thing is an issue. I don't want to buy him a $20 stylus that he's going to lose . And the headphone jack things look really annoying to me. A folio case he could clip it to, but then it's not well protected.
