Case problem: can't fit headphone plug into port

I get my new case. I'm all excited. Really liked it. Then found that my Shure 315 earbud headphones had too big a head holding the plug and wouldn't fit into the opening.

Yikes. To me, this is a design defect of the case maker (Cygnett).

But be that as it may, I guess I'm in the market for a new one now. So that I don't have to keep going round in circles, does anyone have some specific info as to whether the case will work with my 'phones on some others I was looking at, principally Otter commuter and Urban AG Scout? Failing that, if you know of a manufacturer that will definitely work, I'm happy to hear about it.

Well, I do really like the case otherwise, but it needs to be wider. That's harder to do. I guess I could just rip the top off...

I once shaved the sides off the rubber on the plug with a razor , fixed my problem.

I've used their stuff before when I had a Palm...that sounds like a good idea. I was wondering if there was some sort of adapter. If people are making cases that don't fit quality, long standing brands like Shure, there had to be some solution. I was just about to mutilate the case, too. While that would work, I think I'll try the adapter solution first.

Free is always a good thing. But this was about $2 and if you're like me---i.e., someone who nearly flunked shop because he couldn't make a paperweight--mutilation is a scary course of conduct that is a last resort.

This is just really annoying. Is it really a revelation to case manufacturers that some people use non-stock headphones? It's not like Shure is an outlier or an unknown. Quite to the contrary. The whole thing is ridiculous. For the record, I sent Otter an email and all they said in response was, essentially, well, our cases will work with the stock headphones. We're not sure after that.

Remind me to avoid Otter.

..This isn't so complicated, but apparently it is confusing enough to case manufacturers to create a cottage industry in making adapters!

Amendment:

The Cygnett case I later found out also had difficulty fitting the stock charger cord (another, third party, micro USB cord fit fine, but I use that one for charging, the stock for USB connections, so I needed two.)

The manufacturer suggested "pushing hard." Well, that could have a bad end to it, but even so I just could not get it to work. At that point, I shipped this case back and went with an Otterbox Commuter, despite earlier statements, since I already had an adapter on the way and it wasn't clear who else would support the earbuds (UAG seemed likely, but I didn't want to keep sending cases back...) Otterbox also needed an adapter, although their opening is larger than Cygnett's. So be it. For future reference, I'll know!

Overall--I liked the Cygnett case better for protection and its "sticky" feel. It felt safer in general than the Otterbox Commuter (which, however, was about $8 cheaper with the deal on Amazon) and it is much easier to get on and off. Only an expert could prove that as to the safety, but that was my impression. Maybe it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. But the case is simply not very functional. Apart from the charger / earbud issues, the latter of which is less important and plagues many manufacturers, the on/off button is hard to push and doesn't seem well designed, either. They claim that they will be coming out with a new design that has wider holes for the charging plug in the future. Yeah, I could've bought another 3rd party microUSB cord, but enough's enough, patience is not unlimited, and there's also always the chance of getting another that doesn't fit as well. It's easier to actually get a case that is functional!

In the meanwhile, unless you have a closet full of non-stock micro USB cords, SOME of which may fit, I'd have to say--avoid this case. Not to mention, the seller I found was in the UK, it took forever to get here and over $9 to send back! Debacle.

I found one of the adapters at a local walmart after I had ordered the adapter from amazon. Of course when I originally went in there, they did not have the adapter on the shelf for me to look at it. I didn't try it but it looked like it would do the trick for $3 or $4 if you didn't want to wait for it to arrive from HongKong or California.
