Casting from Chrome browser on Linux ... video plays on both devices at once

With a dedicated Chromecast device plugged into my TV, whenever I cast from my Chrome browser on my Linux laptop (over WiFi), the video will change modes automatically so it ONLY appears on my TV. Which is much better (less lag).

However, with my Shield, when I Chromecast from the same Chrome browser on my Linux laptop to the Shield which is connected to my TV, the video ALWAYS plays on BOTH devices (Laptop + TV) at once, so it's pretty ****ty on the TV (super laggy).

Any suggestions?

your post is extremely confusing. shield is playing on what two devices? do you have a computer hooked up to your tv? you really need to be more specific as to the setup, what devices being plugged into what.

As a follow-up, this is what the tab in Chrome looks like when it stops mirroring and ONLY plays on the TV:

I can't get this to happen with my Shield. It's always stuck in mirror mode, so the video on the TV sucks. Choppy, etc.
