Cell "Time Without Signal" ~ 50%

BTW, I just installed Juice Defender which actively controls 3G & wifi (on pro version).

I am enjoying much better battery life, especially when I'm not using it. Now dropping only 1.5% per hour instead of much more.

It doesn't do anything for when you have it on and am surfing (which drops 10%-15% per hour), but I've noticed much better performance.

Just figured I'd share my experience,
Mike

If its a software problem, getting a new phone won't fix it. If its a hardware problem: class action.

Well lets hope that the extended batteries will be better quality and get us 2 days or so and froyo will hopefully solve alot of our issues too. I Have switched my settings>call settings>system select to "sprint" and my standby is down to 4% and going lower as time goes on. I havent had time to test if this truly effects service and useage but as of now instead of having 50-52% Im much lower.

Well after a day with the new settings I noticed no difference in signal or speed and I'm down to 2%.

What I did was go: settings>call settings>system select>sprint. Not a huge difference in battery life I must admit but I'm sure its improved.

Edit: will repost the screen shot as tapatalk screwed it up.:-(

Wow, 50%, 86%? I've had my phone on for 2 hours, where I get 5-6 bars of 3G/4G, and I don't suffer like you. I've only had 47% time without signal. Suckers!

I'm with you!! I'm at around 91% - I think we got duds... getting my 2nd one FedExed today.

Did the new phone improve your time without signal? I have a fascinate and I'm getting a high % like you. Tried the various fixes and doesn't seem to work. Wondering if I should exchange.

Well... After ignoring this thread forever, I finally read it yesterday and to my dismay noticed I was also at 50% time without signal. Switched my settings to utilize sprint's network only and it's down to 1% today. My battery life seems much better and my signal is also better.

I have a friend who lives in Chula Vista (right on the mexican border) and when my phone was there it would start roaming even though I used to get a fine sprint signal there on my old phone. I'm going back tonight, hopefully I won't start internationally roaming first and will actually stay on the local sprint towers.

If you set to Sprint only, what does that do with Roam, ie, my lake home is where I need Automatic to get best signal - end of phone hell.

You won't roam on Sprint only and your phone will just lose the Sprint signal and will search for a Sprint signal if you can't lock onto one so definitely switch to Automatic when you're by your lake home if Sprint is really weak or nonexistant there but stay on Sprint only for the best battery performance when you know you're in strong Sprint areas.

I replaced my first Epic due to time without signal being consistantly above 50% (even when set on Automatic) since where I live and use my phone most and there's no way I should be without a signal in these areas and that was also causing my battery to drain incredibly fast. The replacement Epic as been perfect and only hits time without signal in weak areas, which is how it should be on Sprint only.

I just came back from Service Center to see if there is any tweaks they are aware of - there isn't.

They did say, don't set to Sprint, you will lose the ability to grab signal in weaker areas as told above.

But the funny part is the two techs both had Time without signal of 65% and 50%. I told them how to fix it. They are both good, but new to this phone, no
training on it, and no help from the top.

time without signal

I was looking why my battery keeps dieing so quick, I got 71% time without signal.

Before I had no problems with the battery and it would last me 2 days. Is this happening because of the kernel change or modem? Can the kernel setup avoid this problem? Like put the phone into roaming?

Thanks

Anyway, I noticed you're running BS2.2... I thought he fixed the TWS bug in that release. Apparently not?

Toggle Airplane Mode on/off to after each reboot to fix, or find a custom kernel that has the new TWS fix in it (Bonsai 4.0 for example).

It's not. I requested it for 2.3 - hopefully Hero will include it.

Thanks for letting me know guys, appreciate it!

yeah, can confirm I'm on BS 2.2 and it's most certainly still there, which surprised me... probably slipped through the cracks... I'm sure it will be on 2.3...
