Change default navigation app?

Has anyone managed to change the default maps/navigation app away from Google Maps? I've started using TomTom Go as my main GPS navigation app but want to be able to use Google assistant to launch it e.g "ok google - navigate to....." and it automatically start the Tomtom app instead. I've tried everything like clearing Google Maps defaults, setting Tomtom as the default location app using a 3rd party app, disabling Google Maps (and Chrome as it defaults to this in Maps absence). Google really seems to have their claws into this one and it's really bugging me

not sure but i personally wouldnt use anything but google maps, even on an iphone

I think that is what's doing you in, Google is ignoring the 3rd party app, whatever it is.

I've used Google for so long I just fancy a little change and TomTom does some things better for me personally. On iPhone I'd always stick to Apple Maps purely because I love the way I can keep the screen off with navigation running in the background and everytime you approach your next turn the screen comes back on with the full map and direction on the screen but goes off again straight afterwards. It's a great feature. I'd still keep Google Maps on my iPhones though for Street view. I guess I'll just have to keep entering addresses in manually for now which just isn't as nice as saying OK Google to my phone or AndroidWear watch.

Incidentally, I downloaded Waze to see if that could be made the default and yep... It can. I dunno if that's because Google own Waze or what but it's a little peculiar
