Change recent apps button functionality?

Can I switch the functionality? I mean, could I get the menu with a fast press on the menu button and the recent apps with a long press?

This is really bugging me and is pretty much the only reason I'm not ready to buy S5 actually..

There is a way to remap hardware keys, but I believe you need root access to be able to edit said functionality.
