Yes you can in settings - sound & display - notification sound. Or you can go into messages - then settings - you can change it there too.

This so nearly works for me
But when I select my mp3 file as the ringtone, it errors "Unfortunately messaging has stopped"
So close....
Any ideas?

Renamed the media folder to Media (capital M) and it worked
