Change USB charging to Photo Transfer?

Are you at least seeing the "USB Charging" notification? If not, then I would suspect the Pixel 2 is not liking your cable.

If you are seeing "USB Charging" - try tapping on it instead of swiping down.

PS: If your Pixel 2 is in a case, it is possible that your USB cable is not being fully inserted; give it a try without the case to be sure.

I think I have found the issue - the Pixel 2 only likes USB 2 - all works well in a USB 2.0 slot - not so well in the USB 3.0 slot - BUT - I think I am all set for the Pixel 3 - :)

I may mess with the USB drivers later - only had phone for 1 hour

Hmmm... Someone else reported the same problem a few weeks (?) ago and I'm pretty sure it *was not* a Pixel 2 device...

I came across the settings for choice for photo or media transfer for your when it's plugged in for USB yesterday, that I can't remember where that was at on the pixel 2, my default is for photo

The Pixel I had - both 8.0 and beta 8.1 worked in the USB 3.0 ports.

The Pixel 2 charges in USB 3.0 ports - that's it.
The Pixel 2 will allow options in the USB 2.0 ports
I've tried updating drivers - nothing changes.

As long as I can do what I want to do, I don't care if the 2.0 or 3.0 ports are used.
I have learned that "if it works, don't fix it" is a truism.

If I do come up with something on the 3.0 situation - I shall report back.

It's in developer options

@Ca_lvn - tried those setting - not the answer
I can only speak for MY computer - but it is a USB 3.0 issue as far as I can tell
Sorry I was thinking of something different, just realized I don't even have a USB cable to try the 3.0 port on my laptop, always used the cable that came with the phone before

I am using the same cable that came with the 1st Pixel I had - USB C male on one end and USB A on the other - can connect from USB port to phone.

The cable that came with the P2 is USB C male on both ends - has a USB A female to USB C male adapter. There doesn't seem to be any way to connect the P2 to a USB A port with the cables in the P2 box - unless I am missing something here

You are correct. You will need a (preferably) good quality USB-C to USB-A cable to connect the phone to your PC.

Do keep in mind that, for most purposes, it may be nearly as easy to copy files on your phone to your Google Drive account and then access them on your PC either through the Drive web page (http:\\drive.google.com) or by setting up a Google Drive folder on your PC (https://www.google.com/drive/download/).

Another option that I have used in the past is AirDroid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid).

For managing files on your phone, I currently favor FX File Explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx).

Using the Pixel cable and USB 2.0 ports I can do all I need to without issue - I'm lucky.

I am a very light phone user -

Ca_ivn Thank you so much I've been going crazy since my phone updated to Android 8 and no longer able to connect to my Drone controller with OTG cable. Then I spotted your post Amen works perfect again!

Hey guys, any idea if this setting can be saved? Say i choose to xfer photos, will its save for the next time I teacher to this PC?

I've found it's easiest to just put items in drive and download to the PC or Google photos. however if there's no internet connection then I can see why you'd want to do it another way.
