Changing Android Verison

I am running 2.2. I got a launcher with ICS Theme, ICS Lock Screen, etc.
I want to fake my android version to say 4.0....how would i go about doing that? im unrooted and not rooting...i have the ADB and Sdk stuff. HELP!

I'm pretty sure you need to be rooted to modify the build.prop file in the System directory
