Changing Default File Name When Saving Attachments in Messaging App

I came to the Note II from the S II but before that I had a lowly Optimus S. The one thing, the only thing, I miss from that device is how simple it was too long click a picture sent via text and save it without having to type in a name for the file. Why are Samsung smart phones not smart enough to generate a time stamp or some other generic file name? What do all of you do? Just type in a name every time?
