Changing email associated with Google

Created Google account with email address A. Play store, Google Drive, etc all work with it. Now email address A is going away. All I can see to do is in Google account associate email address B with A. I don't like that because if I miss something Google will be sending to a dead email.

All I can see to do is delete my Google account that used A and create a new one with B.

Am I right? What is impact on the phone?
