Changing my S3s Network Type

Coming from a unlocked nexus 4 i was able to switch back and forth from HSPA and WCDMA using the *#*#4636#*#* protocol. When i go to settings>status>mobile network type> it reads UMTS:3. I tired the *#*#4636#*#* protocol with my TM S3 and it was unsuccessful. Is there a protocol to change its network type without rooting the phone? If i unlock it can i do it then? Thanks in advance.

The T-Mobile T999 is either going to use WCDM, GSM or both. It will either be 4G or 2g (Edge) no in between. I have never seen a 3G icon on my phone.

Do you know how to change it to WCDM? Mine reads UMTS:3 and my 4g indicator is claiming im using 4g but a speed test reveals im only pulling, at best 3mgs.

3mgs is 4G speeds, it is on the low end I was getting around 2.5 till some tower upgrades, but to answer your question. Settings>Mobile networks>Network mode.

Thanks, I switched it to GSM/WCDM (auto).
