I need some quick clarification.
Before I sleep if the charge is at 25%(example) and I leave it to charge overnight will I cause any harm to the phone? Long term and short term?

Also if I charge it overnight and it reaches100% at 4 am(example) but I get up at 7 to remove it off charge will the handset get damaged? Cause it'll be at 100% for 3 hours approx and still be plugged in...

I do the same ( leave phone charging overnight) and had no issues with the batteries over 2 years with 4 blackberries and my old htc Aria (march 2010)which my kids use. Runs the same as day one.

I have had 2 batteries go bad in the past year so I try not to charge over night, but my issue might be something else I guess

Nothings 100%. Maybe I'm lucky. I leave my phones charging overnight 6 nights a week (don't use it much on Sundays lol) since my first Nokia in 2001. I was only giving smartphones as an example tho. I've never had to replace a battery in each of the 2yrs of use.

I pretty much have charged every phone I've owned overnight, plus put it in docks or charge it at work whenver possible. I hate having it at 99%. I've never noticed any drop in battery time, though I often swapped batteries before this phone so a tad concerned if it is really doing something.

What I don't understand is... if it truly is bad for the phone.... why don't they have the phone disconnect the charge when it hits 100%?

Maybe they want you to buy more batteries lol. Now I just think something might be wrong with my phone is why my batteries are going bad

Uhmmm it DOES NOT HARM your phone and ill tell u y. When your phone reaches 100%it stops taking charge until it goes down a few % then it starts charging again without over charging the battery.

If you notice your LED will be solid red while charging but once it reached 100%it goes Solid green instead until you lose a few % then it goes solid red again and begin charging again.

I suppose that would be logical.

My previous phone, Samsung infuse would pop up a message saying "phone charged unplug charger". Which would normally happen while I was asleep .

What i have heard is smartphones are actually smart.. "tried to add a pun or joke,u get what i mean.. " They do somthing along what Movadoevo8 said, tho my previous phone,an htc, stayed solid green even when fully charged. The battery does stop U when it reaches full capacity, like Movadoevo8 said,it discharges a bit, then charges, discharges, then charges, and so on and so on. On my old phone it stayed solid green yet when i read what my battery widget idicator said and it said that the battery was losing charge, that it was. But when i cheaked it a few min later,it was charging. They do this to not stay at 100% while its on the charger, why might ask.? Smartphones batteries deterioate and lose battery capacity if kept at 100% for prolonged periods. Our one x's have "smart batteries". They do the cycle to extended their life to not deterioate and burn out. Hope it helps you guys.!

16year old,htc one x owning,genius.
