I have a question that might seem easy to most but I have never owned a Smart phone b4.

Will the thunderbolt/or any HTC smartphone work with a none Verizon charger?
reason I ask is because I bought a car charger (not from vzw) for my env3 2 years ago that when I plug in my env3 it says the charger is not recommended for this device and then it really does not charge it. it does the same thing with any none vzw charger I have used.

Im looking to buy a car charger and if I Have to buy one from vzw I will for the Tbolt. but i would rather get this http://www.htcdepot.com/htc-micro-usb-dual-car-charger/5A47A6902.htm

the charging port on the thunderbolt is microUSB. the env3's is also microUSB so I think it may be compatible with the thunderbolt.

You have to check the voltage output on the charger. My daughter has an LG EnV2, and it uses a micro USB port. My Motorola Droid also has a micro usb port, and her charger, while it FITS the Droid, it will not CHARGE the Droid. Not strong enough.

the Bolt does work with non verizon chargers but as stated alot of the cheap ebay style chargers have incorrect voltage ratings. I have seen bad chargers damage charging ports due to voltage spikes. The LG should be fine.

Does anyone miss the days when every single separate phone had a proprietary charger? And they sold those "universal" chargers that had 80 squid tentacles sticking out of it or overpriced "modules?" Don't you miss that???

Thank you for deciding on a standard all cell phone manufacturers (except Apple...)

To address the original poster, the best thing is that as long as you have a microUSB cable, you can charge it in any USB port (that supports power, which are most now). That's ANY microUSB cable, so don't get sucked in buying an overpriced spare cable from the Verizon store or BestBuy. They're dirt cheap online, including car chargers and AC adapters. You don't have to buy an HTC brand cable or one that is "optimized" for your device.

I looked up the Env3 and it has one of those proprietary ends, so it will not work with the TB or any new phone. Hope you didn't pay too much, because they're selling for about $0.13 online. An overabundance of e-waste associated with cell phone charges is what led to the adoption of a standard.

ANY of these will work with the TB: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...tag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU582772

My current Palm Pre is picky, as in needs a lot of power, about chargers. I had to specifically find a 1Ah charger to put out enough juice to charge the phone, and not just sustain charge while idle (any load, like GPS, continues to drain the power). Most "universal" micro USB chargers I found, when you can find a spec sheet for them, were only putting out 500 to 600mAh (1000mAh = 1Ah). So the power needed to provide an actual charge is what you need to worry most about.

The HTC charger linked I am sure will do the job just fine, and for $20 isn't too unreasonable considering you have an extra port to charge a second phone or power a Bluetooth audio gateway.

The 1Ah charger I ended up going with was this one: Amazon.com: Griffin Technology 1 amp PowerJolt Dual Micro for iPhone and iPod (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

It does the job wonderfully and is a slim design so that I can close the ash tray cover when not in use.

I suppose I should preface my post with the disclaimer that some chargers will always do better than others.

I have two main charging concerns for my phone: bedside and vehicle.

I need a good cradle/charger for my nightstand as I (like most people) use my phone as an alarm clock. I'd like to stand it up or on its side. Motorola has some great accessories for the X that does this function well, but it seems like HTC has always been lacking when it comes to simple stuff like this. Hopefully they'll have better support for the TB. If it's a good cradle, I'll also put one on my desk at work.

For the car, I need something that won't look awful (suction cups, bean bags, sticky pads) or leave wires all over my car. I'm pretty sure ProClip is the solution that I'm looking for, but it's a pricey...

Thanks for the tip about ProClip, those look like a good product. I have a suction cup for my ipod touch, which worked pretty good for a while but when it got cold this winter it fell off my windshield and won't stay on now. So I'm looking for an alternative when I get my TB, and the ProClip might just be it.
I hope HTC comes out with a good dock/stand/cradle since I will use it as an alarm clock too.
