Sorry! This may be a dumb question but I googled it and it said the S10 Plus can charge at 15W only and that the S10 5G is 25W which is what the new S21's are rumored to be 25W. The Ultra which we are getting may even do up to 45W not 100% sure yet. Well now that we aren't getting a charger with our phone even if the Ultra is 25W and not 45W do I need a new charger? I see Samsung makes a 25W brick along with a 45 one. So if our S10's only do 15 does that mean our wall plugs only do 15 is their a way to tell? Or could they actually be 25W but it's just our phones don't support that high. Just trying to see if I need new chargers or not with my $60 credit I'm getting. I know ours say fast adaptive and I think it's considered 2.0 not sure what the 21's will be. I've heard it will be 3.0.

If you get an S21, you won't need a new charger, but a 15W charger will only charge it at 15W. And yes, the S10 chargers are 15W.

The S10 5G, if I remember right, supports 25W but only had a 15W charger in the box.

You can charge with any 5 Volt or 5 + higher charger. The only difference it will make is the time needed to charge - the lower the rating of the charger, the longer it takes. But an old 5 Volt charger, something like 5 Watts (depending on manufacturer) will charge a phone that can charge at 25 Watts just fine. The phone and charger "negotiate" to see what the phone can accept and what the charger can supply, and "arrive" as a satisfactory charge.

It was in the moderation queue due to language. I edited it slightly and approved it.

Ok, thanks. Sorry, thought it was mild enough to not be an issue. I'll try to remember to redact myself in future to keep your workload down lol.

Oh really I didn't know that about the S10 5G! So if the S21 Ultra does 25 or 45W charging is it worth buying the 25 or 45W brick they sell with my $60 credit? 15 to 25 isn't much but 15 to 45 seems like I should. But I read somewhere it's not much of a difference. Guess I'll use what I have and use my credit for the pen and case bundle.

I have 2 Samsung external 10,000 battery packs I got for like $12 each one time from a deal plus rewards I had they fast charge my phone now and our good to have. But having a bigger battery I may want the 20,000 one they make of that will see. Thanks!

Well, first off bear in mind the faster charging is only really between 0 and 60%(ish), so if you're the kind of person who tops up a lot you won't really notice a difference.

Samsung phones support USB-PD, so if you have a USB-PD charger from a Chromebook or laptop or something, that should work. And if you happen to have a Samsung wireless duo charger, the power cable for that is 25W, so that should work.

Personally I'm not particularly impressed with Samsung's chargers... I think if you want other accessories I'd use the credit for that and buy a nicer third party charger.

Thanks! You're right I have plenty of bricks I don't really need to use my credit for one of those. cuz I think I want this flip case that's going to hold the pen It's like a bundle. Plus We don't even know if the ultra is going to be 25W or 45. But yeah I guess I'll be fine with what I have and my external battery packs being $10,000 since I have 2. not all my accessories need to do 25 I guess but like you said I can get some other brand on Amazon later on if I feel like I need it.

If the phone charges at 25 Watts, plugging it into a 45 Watt charger will still charge it at 25 Watts. The phone determines the speed as long as the charger can put out at least as much as the phone is calling for.

And since you should really never let the battery get below about 50%, fast charging is really a non-thing. If lithium batteries could take a discharge to 0%, it would be great to have a 100 Watt charger, but they can't, so charging from 50% to 100% won't be any different between a 5 Watt charger (the old 5 Volt 1 Amp chargers) and a 45 Watt charger.

I go all day without charging my phone. I wake up in the morning and I do have it in a wireless dock while driving to work than I don't charge it again till I get home from work and it's usually on anywhere from 20% to 40%. I don't charge it every time it gets to 40 or 50% is that better to do? I've heard people say take it off the charger at 80% which I don't do and I've heard charge it when it's down to about 40.

But someone on amazon said I shouldn't use my old S10 Plus charger 15W for the new 21 Ultra it's not good for the battery. I found a 2 pack of 25W chargers for 17.99 they are not Samsung and they say PD and mention Super Fast Charging. My phone now says Fast charging when charging. Do the newer phones that do 25W say Super Fast Charging when charging with a 25W charger? I guess I'll wait till the 14th and see what the Ultra actually is if it's 25 or 45. We plan on keeping these phones for a while so I want to get the best out of the battery. But we have several chargers from old Samsung phones all rapid chargers so we should be good until I decide what to do. Thanks!

To promote battery health you should keep the battery between about 60 and 80 percent.

In my opinion, life is too short to worry about it. I charge my phone to full overnight when it's around 20%. There are more important things to have anxiety over unless you plan to keep your phone for 6 years.

Was the person on Amazon trying to sell you something? Because that's nonsense. Charging the S21 with the 15W charger from your S10will not harm it at all. That cheap 2 pack might though, only buy chargers from reputable brands.

It didn't make sense to me what they said and no they weren't trying to sell me anything. But yes I don't worry about it now as long as my phone last all day at work I charge it over night when I get home. I charge it no matter what it's on and it's usually between 20 to 40%. And I let it charge to 100 I don't do the 80% thing it charges over night to a 100. I'll just use my charger i have now and if I feel like I want to try a higher watt one later on I will. For now I need to worry about cases I guess.
