Charging issues during navigation

Like a number of people, from Day 1 (I think), I've noticed that even using an approved verizon car charger, my INC slowly runs down (and runs hot). The LED is solid orange while this is going on. So, I've been running SR 2.5, Virtuous 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7, with no change. I noticed since I went to 2.7 I've had several cases where I had to do a battery pull to get the 3G (and occasionally the gps) back. Since virtuous 3.0.1 came out, I decided to give that a try. Too early to tell about the radio, but I noticed while driving under navigation that the phone was 100% charged (the LED solid green.) Phone also seemed a lot cooler when my 45 min drive ended. Hmmm...
