First time Android user here - new LG G3, rooted (IOroot).

I just started getting pop ups on my screen which look like Malware. The most recent was

The page at 'http://www.googlandroid.com' says:
Detected you are using an expired Android Keyboard!
Update to the latest version (TouchPal) now.
[OK]

It popped up while selecting a widget to place on the lock screen - not a place I expected a popup to occur. I deleted the most recent app I'd installed, but it came back. There was another (which occured on my home screen) but I didn't capture it. Since I'm not using TouchPal, it certainly smells malware-ish.

How does one go about tracking down what is running and how to squish these annoyances? (note: while this is my first android phone, I'm not a stranger to linux or the commandline in unix or windows - I just don't know how android is laid out from a developer side, and don't know where to start picking apart the source of this kind of stuff)

Thanks!!

It still may be an app that is just giving pop up garbage. Do you get anything like that in the status bar?

Hmmm... Didn't notice - thoughts couldn't have been since it was on the lock screen.

I just had another pop up for a game - are those really allowed in ad-sponsored apps?

You can see if you can reboot in safe mode ( I don't know how on your phone), and if it stops, then it is one of your apps.

I believe in the android world it is pretty much always an app.

Goto Settings, Apps, Downloaded apps and get rid of anything you do not recognize.
