My P6 updated to the latest Google Play System update (Dec 1). Now it seems that Chat features are broken. Just stays on "trying to verify number". Chat worked just fine until the update.

Anyone else having this issue?

I cleared cache in Carrier Services and Google Messages, then restarted, but it still won't connect.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Can try clearing data then force stop the message app see if it returns to normal

Mine has been doing the same thing for a few hours. This has happened to me before a few times and it seems to happen randomly. I then try without success to make the chat features work. Then they just start working again on their own after some time. Hopefully, that will be the case here as well.

Did you have to put your number? Sometimes leave it alone for few hours , also look in play store carrier services showed up for update
It didn't ask for my number, so that is a little odd. I'll give it some time and see what happens.

My pixel 6 pro chat has been broken for a long time and none of the fixes have worked outside of a factory reset which I don't want to do. But, if i switch to my eSIM for Google and set up my chat, then it will work.

I must have gotten some update recently. I had to Verify my number. Then it connected. Working fine.

And just like that... It's back. So very odd.

Is the emoji reactions feature working for you? I cleared data, uninstalled, re-installed, etc. and that's no longer working for me.

Edit: nvm, I started a new conversation with a couple RCS-enabled contacts, and it seems to be working. I guess clearing data must have removed any metadata related to the feature on existing chats.

Yes definitely just checked had to verify and connected ..love how we don't get a notification smh

So mine has said connected for a long time now. What exactly am I supposed to be seeing with it? I just seem to be doing regular texting.

The only way that you see Chat features, is if you are texting someone else that is also using the Chat features. You will see the little bouncing dots when someone is in the process of replying to you, like with Facebook Messenger or Apple's iMessages. also, you can send larger file sizes back and forth to each other. I only have one other contact that has Chat enabled.

That's definitely one of the things where the Apple users have a significant advantage. They ALL use iMessage where as Android users are using 50 different SMS apps and most of the ones with Messages likely have no idea about the chat feature.

And that's why Apple won't ever make an Android version of iMessages.
