It's not closed. But it needs to be cleaned. So we've taken it away while we do that. Things get out of hand in that thread far too often, and the line is crossed far too regularly.

It's not a thread that we WANT to close, but if it comes to that it will be.

The fact that you understand why it would be closed tells me that you already know what I said above is the case. Please understand that when something becomes too much of a time sink for the mod team that we have to do something other than sit in there and babysit. One thread can't take up all of our time. Then other areas get neglected.
