[Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Not going to selectively quote cause I'm too lazy.

His car was used, so lemon law unfortunately doesn't apply.

And plasma still owns when it comes to picture quality (and typically picture quality at a given cost as long as you're looking 46"+). Unbiased reviewers typically put plasma at the top. Most LED sets are typically better than ccfl backlit models, but that might be due to the higher price of LED sets so manufacturers can afford to put a better panel in there.

If it's not abundantly clear, I'm a huge TV snob lol

Lol!!

Oh, wasn't sure if it did or not, just throwing it out there.

That doesn't surprise me. I always thought they had a better picture quality. Just haven't really looked at TVs since I bought mine, so, I'm out of the loop. I'll have to stop in an Amazon Showroom one of these days just to see what the current state of TVs is. Or, maybe the next time in Costco I'll take a look, just to keep up on it.

I'm not a big fan of plasma but I have been checking out the LED's. My Sharp 36" HD LCD has been very good to me. The kids growing up have put their share
of war marks on the screen over the last few years. No bad pixels or anything but the screen surface has some nice scratches in it that are driving me nuts when I'm playing Gears of War 3.

When I play gears I play to win and get all wound up in it and my display is important to me ;)

Blasphemy!! Lol.

Wuh? War marks? If I were in your boat, I think I'd have a couple less kids if they did that. :p Lol, I'm trying to picture this wound up competitive side of you Paul, I just can't.

Why is this thread a sticky? Seems like more of a IRC

Chatter are important news.

Oh ya.. I sit down to play some Gears its not 5 minutes or whatever... Were talking a few beers or cans of ice cold Pepsi depending on my mood and some serious cursing going down! :p

I've been dedicated to the Gears franchise since it started back with Gears of War in what 2008/09 I think it was...

Aside from the general open talking in this thread it is also the home to free talk about ROMs, rooting, devices of all makes and models and Android in general.

This thread has saved probably dozens and dozens of pointless other threads from being created.

Lol. Yea, I heard from other members that you get all riled up when you've knocked back a few Pepsis. Lol!!

I played about halfway through the first GoW. It was good. But, Halo always filled that niche for me and I never got into them. I have them on a list to play one day, but, probably will never get around to it. Besides, at this point, if I manage to complete Skyrim before I die, I'll be happy. I think I'm getting close to 250 hours, lol.

Lol, Paul is like Chatter's PR Officer. You are a busy guy here at AC Paul. :p

I can't speak for any LCD sets, as I haven't really looked at them in a long time. However, for plasma, Panasonic owns all. I've actually go two (one is a couple of years old and the other is about 3 months old). For the money, I don't believe the PQ can be beat.

Blasphemy!! Lol.

I've gotten over pushing so hard for plasma. When asked for an honest recommendation (which happens often from my family friends - they all know I'm the tech fiend), I try to give facts or clearly express when a comment is pure opinion. A similar situation pops up with phones: while I would never buy an iPhone for myself, for some people it is the ideal choice. I can't stand motion artifacts on LCDs, so I'll never buy one, but for some people they are the best option.

The stuff that really drives me wild on the plasma/LCD debate is the misinformation out there. It seems most salespeople (especially at big box stores) are horribly misinformed about burn-in, energy consumption, contrast ratio, etc. I will correct that at all possible opportunities.

Stated. This thread has answered a number of my questions that would not have been particularly useful to anyone else. The last thing that would be needed on the forums is clutter threads with 1-2 posts.

Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Allow me to answer your question with a follow up question.

Do the leaves ask why the wind blows? Or do fish ask why the waves roll?

Dunno if that answers the question but it rhymes I think.

So there you have it.

Lol!! I don't think that blows and rolls would even be considered a slant rhyme, but, nice try. Instead, I offer this haiku.

Fish don't ask the sea
The wind blows through silent leaves
Chatter just goes on

That is what I was getting at, I've been out of the game too long. Yea, I bought my Panasonic plasma four years ago, and, at the time, it couldn't be beat. So, I'm with ya on that one Bonk.

Lol, we're in the same boat. And, since I work with computers, I feel like I'm on 24/7 tech support. It gets old. Well, I think a general disclaimer of when something is an opinion is always necessary, regardless as to what is being discussed, lol. Agreed. I have suggested iPhones to people before, if it's what suits their needs.

Lol, yea, I don't have any burn in on my TV in the four years that I've owned it. And, since I game, you'd think I'd have experienced it to some degree because of game's HUDs, but, nothing so far.

The newer sets are even harder to get burn-in. You almost have to deliberately induce it.

And isn't being computer tech support fun? I love trying to help people via phone. Nearly impossible in most cases.

No. Lol. You can always remote in.

Not when they've somehow messed up their internet connection. Malware removal is sometimes tricky via remote desktop as well...

Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Lol, good point. But, what if their phone line is messed up too? Tech support via USPS? :p

Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Don't think it rhymes but it looks like the thread has taken on a life of its own as a force of nature and is extremely popular.
I yield.
Go forth!

Re: [Chatter] "Where everybody knows your name ..."

Yea, it's been happening to me all morning. In the mean time, just go back and edit your post and remove the double post. That's what I've been doing, lol.

When I post in Quick Reply, FF asks me if I want to leave the page. If I click Leave Page, I get the double post, not sure about if I stay on the page. I would assume the post wont go through, but, not sure.

In firefox (on Ubuntu though I doubt that matters), it gives me a popup option to "leave page" or "stay on page" when I post a quick reply. If I select stay on page, it appears the operation times out, but the post is, in fact, made. Then I can just close that tab and return to browsing without my post being made in duplicate.

Edit: nice ninja edit ^. This post answers your question though even though you hadn't posted said question when I started typing.

Lol!! So, does that mean at least one of us is psychic?

Okay, yea, Stay on Page does work. I think I did that before and found out it worked, but, I couldn't remember and was actually going to test it after that post, but, couldn't do it without someone else posting because I wanted to eliminate Post Merging from the mix.

Also, if you Stay on Page, you can reload the page and you'll see your post (only after you reload you have to click Leave Page this time). Also, It'd be great if you edited your post now to mention something about reloading the page, lol.

Tapatalk seems to have improved a lot with their latest update. I can finally see stickies and proper subforum sections, and I like the bigger arrows. Just give me my damn forum signature now please.

Also noticed that Tapatalk now handles embedded images much better. Older versions would occasionally never display images in posts.

Hey guys,

I've asked vBulletin support to post in this thread while they are testing the "Leave this Page" / "Double Post" issue. Don't be alarmed if you see a bunch of off-topic posts while Zachary tries to reproduce the error. He is here to rescue us. Thanks!

Perhaps I'm confused, but I thought this thread was filled with over 10,000 off-topic posts...

And, if there's anything we can do to lend a hand, let us know. I'm kind of doubting it, but still want to throw it out there.
