There are a lot of factors that go into deciding whether to get an implantable medical device or not. I actually work in the medical device field and build implantable pulse generators (pacemaker, defibrillator, neurostimulator) as part of my day job. My father in law maybe needs a bradycardia device but so far hasn't gotten one yet. When a patient is quite old the complications from the surgery end up creating more problems than they solve (aka co morbidities in industry jargon).
On the flip side I have a friend who got a couple of EP procedures done and had a pacemaker put in about 10 years ago. He was in his 30s back then so it absolutely made sense for him BTW he lives in Grand Rapids since 2006
Long story short, lot of things to consider. Any surgery, minimally invasive or otherwise is a big deal. Just my 2c.
